Nel 1726 in un terreno appartenente alla famiglia Grimaldi,
fu edificata dagli abitanti di allora una piccola Chiesa che
per l'esiguità dell'opera denominarono volgarmente "Il
Chiesino". Tale resṭ la denominazione popolare e non della
Chiesa e delle case che tutt'oggi circondano il complesso
religioso.
Nel 1746 le truppe Austriache, in marcia verso Genova
attraversarono la Val Varenna e giunti a Chiesino misero a
ferro e fuoco anche la piccola Chiesa. La popolazione dei
dintorni lo ricostrú integralmente. Una testimonianza di
tale invasione rinvenne anche alla fine '800 o inizi '900,
quando alcuni contadini scavando un rivo, rinvennero un
cannone ivi precipitato e abbandonato dall'esercito
invasore. Nel 1878 subentrati ai Grimaldi i marchesi Della
Volta ampliarono e restaurarono il Chiesino. Nel 1919 venne
innalzato l'attuale campanile.
In 1726, a small church was built on land belonging to the Grimaldi family by the inhabitants of the time. Due to the small size of the building, it was popularly called "Il Chiesino".
