Poco a valle della scomparsa chiesa di San Marziano nel
1443 fu costruita una cappella, denominata "Romitorio di S.
Antonio Abate", nel luogo dove aveva vissuto nel XIV secolo
il beato Martino Ansa, eremita i cui resti sono conservati
nell'attuale chiesa. Il piccolo edificio religioso fu
affidato ai Minori Francescani, che vi costruirono un
convento, nel 1602, con il contributo del governo della
Repubblica di Genova fu costruito il campanile, con funzione
anche di torre di avvistamento. Nel 1680 la cappella venne
ampliata. Eretta
in parrocchia nel 1957 dal cardinale Siri, nel 1962 fu
totalmente ricostruita su progetto degli architetti Puppo e
Poloni e consacrata dallo stesso cardinale Siri il 16 giugno
