L'Albergo del Castello Miramare,in origine Castello Chiozza,è una
villa liberty a forma di castello, con torri merlate,
costruita a fine '800 sui resti del fortilizio medievale dei
Lomellini. Si trova in Piazza Porticciuolo, dal lato mare,
poco prima dell'inizio di Via Pegli. Nel libro Pegli a
traverso i secoli, il fratello del Papa Benedetto XV, Giulio
della Chiesa,critica la distruzione del Fortilizio Lomellini avvenuta per
far posto al "nuovo" Castello Chiozza (ora Hotel Miramare).
Riportiamo le parole scritte in un passo del libro: "A
tramontana del Castello (Fortilizio Lomellini ...) esisteva
però un paesaggio affinchè i marinai dalla spiaggia di
ponente potessero passare al sicuro nel Porto. Di tutto ciò
nulla rimane! Ecco o Pegliesi una colpa da piangere ed io
dirò col Cervetto - Abbiamo visto ai nostri giorni, con quel
rammarico che accompagna la scomparsa dei monumenti dell'età
trascorsa parlanti all' anima la poesia della vecchia
Storia, tramutare il Castello in un villino degli attuali
proprietari - ai quali aggiungo io, non doveasi mai
permettere di rimuovere il più bel monumento della storia
medioevale di Pegli". The "Hotel Castello Miramare", originally "Castello Chiozza", is an Art Nouveau building with the shape of a castle, with crenellated towers, built at the end of the 19th century on the ruins of the medieval Lomellini Fortress. It is located in "Porticciuolo Square", on the sea side, just before the beginning of Pegli Road. In the book "Pegli across the centuries", the brother of Pope Benedict XV, Giulio della Chiesa, criticizes the destruction of the Lomellini Fortress and the construcion of the new "Chiozza Castle" (nowadays Miramare Hotel). We report the words written in a paragraph from the above mentioned book: "On the north side of the Castle (Lomellini Castle) there was, however, a sure way for the sailors, who could pass safely into the Port from the western beach. Nothing remains of all this! People of Pegli, this is a guilt to cry and I will say to Cervetto : We have seen in our days the Castle transformed into a "villa", with the regret that accompanies the disappearance of the monuments of the past age, that transmit to the soul the poetry of old History. I add to the current owners, that they should never have allowed to remove the most beautiful monument of the medieval history of Pegli". Approfondimenti |
